It doesn't get more American than this! (5/5) Fries Their fries deserve their own rating because it's so delicious. Absolutely regretted not getting a large. The crinkle cut fries are freshly fried and so delicious dipped in cheese sauce. (4.5/5) Italian Beef Sandwich The beef is roasted for four hours and they stuff it in freshly baked French bread. You can get it dry, extra gravy, or dipped, which are different levels of au jus they put in the sandwich. So good! (4.5/5) Portillo's Beef Hot Dog This is the Chicago style hot dog and it has to be the most refreshing and healthy tasting hot dog ever (in a delicious way). It's the tomato, celery salt, and sport peppers that make it a Chicago classic. (4/5) Chili Cheese Dog Definitely one of the better chili cheese dogs. (4/5) Portillo's Chocolate Cake This is a rich, decadent chocolate cake and it's very sweet and chocolatey. This is how I imagine the chocolate cake from Matilda to taste like. “ Morgan in the orange vest went above and beyond for my sister and I. It was our first visit, and we were in a group of 11 people. She was able to recommend an order that was exactly what we were looking for, and she even helped the newer cashier ring it in. (If you're curious, it was a buffalo chicken salad, which is not a menu item.) To top it off, Morgan ensured our orders were easy to assemble, **and she brought me a small box to toss my side of chicken strips in to mix with the side of buffalo sauce**. This sealed the deal; I'm inspired to write a review specifically for Morgan. She didn't have to do that and I did not ask or even think about it. She made our first visit so welcoming before we'd even had a bite. And the moment my sister and I took our first bite, we knew it was exactly what we were craving, right down to the lettuce medley and cheese blend. Oh, and Morgan was also helping to train a new cashier, and was helping to work expo at the same time. I'm positive she spent equal time with each station. She is amazing--it truly felt like she wanted to facilitate a wonderful experience for me and my group. She set the tone for a really great day! ”

“ I have tried Portillo's in the past and had such a horrible experience, but my visit a few days ago has definitely changed my thoughts. We walked in and it had such a cute vibe from the get go. It was steadily busy but had plenty of seating and parking for customers. The staff member that took our order was SOO friendly, I was very pleased with his customer service. He gave great suggestions and the food was also so yummy! I am not a huge fan of onion rings in general, but I would have to say they may have been one of my favorites of what I ordered during my visit! Definitely will be back for more. ”

“ I tried the Italian beef and sausage sandwich with onion rings. I got the beef dipped and added the peppers. While the dipped beef made the sandwich a bit soggier than I prefer, the flavors were still great, and the peppers were definitely worth the add. The onion rings were solid too! Beyond the food, I really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was quick and friendly! ”

“ Came in here for lunch and the staff was super welcoming! I ordered the beef + sausage combo and added hot peppers. I enjoyed the beef more than the sausage so I might just order that next time. The order ordered came with crispy Crinkle fries. Overall the food was very flavorful, looking forward to trying more from their menu. ”

“ Came for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. I was the only person and in line and the dining area was barely full. This is a pretty big establishment with a lot of potential. Food wise- hot dog was bomb! And fries were crinkly and fresh. Lemonade and their famous chocolate cake was delicious Customer service wise- a lot of improvement to be made. There was at least 15 people on the line and no real structure. I worked fast food for 6 years and could see why people say the customer service here needs work. My advice, keep a trained employee with all the new ones. If there is confusion someone can answer questions immediately and not have a line pile up. I will definitely be back to try other items!
